Günther Förg (b.1952 in Füssen, d. 2013) in his works - often in the form of series - thematises Modernism in the mediums of painting, photography and sculpture. In his revisions of the artistic positions of Piet Mondrian, Barnett Newman, Jean Fautrier, the Russian Avantgarde und American Color Field Painting, the aesthetic concepts of Modernism lose their rigidity under the conditions of so-called Postmodernism, and this enables Förg to look without reservation at new forms of abstract imagery, which occur in the full awareness of their subjectivity and are understood as such.
