The multi-part sculpture by Alicja Kwade is an assemblage of different sculptural materials into a group. The white marble has the volume of a standing figure that could be carved out of it. The pink-colored granite contains the volume of a seated figure, and a reclining figure is potentially present in the format of the sandstone. An aluminum stele and a wooden block of oak complete the basic elements of sculptural art. With the presentation of these uncarved blocks that have been ennobled via an intense working of their exterior surface, Alicja Kwade plays on the attribute of absent figuration. It is sculpture as a potential form and as a composition of corresponding proportions.
